Garage freebie to Living Room beauty!

I have a problem when it comes to the timing of my projects... yes... I really do! :) I always seem to think it's a good idea to start some crazy big project while I am already busy. I admit this. I don't know why I do it. But I am so grateful to have a dear husband who helps me... even if my timing is crazy!! I have been busy with some custom orders lately, but I have been wanting to do this project for a while. So... in the midst of other work, we did it!

My parents found this beauty for us. A couple was moving and didn't want to have to move this beast with them. It is HEAVY!! Solid wood usually is. So the only cost was moving it out of his way! Yes... that's right... free! The man had it in his garage and was using it for storage. What!? GASP! I saw much more potential than garage storage for this!

So we moved it to our barn where my husband did all the repairs it needed and we spent a full day sanding it. That is 2 sanders you see... both in use... for a full day! My arm felt like it was still sanding for the next week!!

Then out came that paint. Black of course. Is there any other color? I paint almost everything black. I may have to start expanding my paint colors. But for now, I am happy with black! :)

After a few coats of paint, a little distressing, some stain, and a few coats of varnish....

TA DA...

We have our tv inside the top... it works perfect!! I love it! Now time to decorate this big thing... hmm... lots of ideas!! :)

I am going to link this project up to some great linky parties. You can get so much inspiration visiting all of these creative women... so much!!

OMGoodness I would LOVE to find something like this to hide a flatscreen in. It has a low profile too, which I love. I'm just so impressed with the paint job (and distressing). Can't beat free either :o) I think I"m jealous....

WOW, that is awesome. I wish I could find things like that but there really aren't any thrift stores or things around and I never seem to be able to find yard sales. I need to try harder.

Okay, that took some serious hours and sweat. I refinished something small and I wanted to quit! I can fully appreciate the effort this took and the end result is fabulous. It makes it all worth it. I'm inspired to try refinishing again.

wow! great save! So funny that a wonderful piece like that was used in a garage. I love the classic look black gives a piece of furniture too. I've tried painting several pieces heirloom white and somehow am never happy with the result and end up painting it over in black. Stick with what you know you love!

Wow, love the transformation. For years the only furniture I had was "found" objects...throwaways, by the roads and open trash day. When my husband bought me a new refrigerator a few years back he thought I was crazy when I took pictures of it being delivered and installed. I told him it was the only brand new appliance I had ever gotten in my life. I'm all about the recycle, re-use thing but I'll be honest...a new fridge was fantastic!
